Analysis of chlormequat and mepiquat
Chlormequat is used as a growth regulator, it prevents excessive foliation and stimulates budding. As a consequence plants have more fruits and there is less need for trimmings. Chlormequat is however an acute toxic pesticide, and the use of it is now only allowed on grains. If chlormequat has ever been used it can still be found years after, it has the characteristic to accumulate in the tree. Even after the usage has stopped the trunk can still deliver chlormequat to the fruits. Even after ten years chlormequat can still be found on the fruits.
